Inside Mexico's Most Powerful Drug Cartel | Foreign Correspondent
3,538 Views · 30 days ago

Tens of thousands are missing, many more murdered. So why are Mexico’s violent drug cartels operating with impunity? We go inside the most powerful cartel to meet the footsoldiers. Corruption, they say, goes right to the top. Produced in collaboration with Ben Zand and Vice TV.

In Mexico’s Sinaloa state, violence has become a way of life.
Home to the country’s most powerful drug syndicate, the Sinaloa cartel, murders and disappearances are rife.

The police, meant to protect the population, are often the targets of violence. Over 500 officers were killed in Mexico last year.

They’re also often complicit, with corruption in the police force and government a major problem. In this shocking portrait of a country caught in the grip of organised crime, reporter Ben Zand takes us where few have gone – inside the Sinaloa cartel in the Sierra Madre mountains where he witnesses the group’s operations up close.

At their hidden base, the group grows poppies and marijuana for export, fends off outsiders with guns and bribes visiting police and security officers with money and women.

“The government is the one in charge” say the local leader. “The cartel is only as big as the government wants us to be.”

Commentator and writer Ioan Grillo believes that the police and military used to have the upper hand with the cartels but says that’s now changed.

“Some of the cartels have become much more powerful,” says Grillo. “[now] the cartel is actually bullying and controlling elements of the security forces.”

It’s the community who’s paying the price for corruption and impunity.
Mirna Quiñones’ son disappeared suddenly 7 years ago. When police refused to help her, she set out to find him herself.

She went on to set up the Trackers of El Fuerte group which helps parents looking for their children. In the last seven years of searching, they’ve uncovered over two hundred bodies.

“There is no justice. We all know that. I have been threatened by the municipal police here. The government and crime are united.”

Interior Minister, Olga Sánchez Cordero, concedes there is corruption. “The trials, and the investigations, are deficient”, she says. “Lawyers are threatened. Judges are threatened. That is just the reality.”

But she maintains the government is doing its best to investigate the cartels and to undermine their support base.

Investigative journalist Anabel Hernández disagrees, saying she has little faith the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, elected two and half years ago, will tackle the problem.

“He promised to do something different but….it’s just the same. Nothing changed. In some parts it's worse."

Pablo Escobar Hid $500 Billion And $18 Million Was Found
15,590 Views · 1 year ago

When you think of ‘bad guys’, you tend to think of the most ruthless criminals. Ones that not only got into crime early, but continued on this path for their entire lives. Then, as they got older, they started dealing with more substantial illegal activities, be it smuggling, or trafficking, illegal substances. Then of course, you imagine that these folks met their end in the hands of the police, and you can bet that it was not a pretty sight. Well, if this is your checklist, then look no further than the notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar. He was all this and more, and during his tenure as the top dog of the Medellin Cartel, he was worth an astonishing 25 billion dollars. Here’s the thing-- all that money had to go somewhere. After all, none of the banks wanted to touch all that dirty money. So Escobar hid it away in the walls of his estates, in the floorboards, even underground. And all those millions of millions of dollars are still being found today. Which brings us to today’s incredible story, as we hear from Nicolas Escobar, Pablo Escobar’s nephew, who found 18 million dollars in the walls of his home. A home that at one time, belonged to Pablo. It’s an incredible story, and it’s one that will surely make you think what could be stashed behind your OWN walls. Who knows? Maybe if you tear down that dry wall you too could find a stash of cash? Then we’d be making a video about you! Right here on The Richest. For copyright matters please contact us at:

How New Billionaire Tyler Perry Changed Show Business Forever | Forbes
9,985 Views · 1 year ago

Shut out of entertainment’s mainstream, Tyler Perry, Hollywood’s newest billionaire wrote, produced and starred in his own American success story. Mostly dismissed by the Hollywood establishment and even some other Black luminaries (Spike Lee once derided Perry’s crass slapstick approach as “coonery buffoonery” before later relenting), Perry has succeeded for two reasons: He has honed a product that too many others viewed as destined for the discount bin. And he made sure to control it all.

The 51-year-old entertainer owns the entirety of his creative output, including more than 1,200 episodes of television, 22 feature films and at least two dozen stage plays, as well as a 330-acre studio lot at the edge of Atlanta’s southern limits. He used that control to leverage a deal with ViacomCBS that pays him $150 million a year for new content and gives him an equity stake in BET+, the streaming service it debuted last September. Forbes estimates Perry has earned more than $1.4 billion in pretax income since 2005, which he used to buy homes in Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles and Jackson Hole, Wyoming, as well as two planes. Quite a lifestyle for a once-homeless playwright raised in poverty in New Orleans. Today, Forbes estimates his net worth at $1 billion, with a clear path to future membership in The Forbes 400.

A natural ham, Perry grew up making his mother laugh with impersonations. He was dealing with more than poverty: He describes an upbringing by an abusive man who he later learned was not his father. He was inspired to write out the stress he was feeling after watching an episode of Oprah Winfrey’s talk show, and spent his 20s touring small theaters around the country performing the plays he wrote, produced and starred in—a crash course in what was to come.

Perry has been operating out of Atlanta since he released Diary in 2005; in the ensuing 15 years he has produced at least one feature film every year, as well as 13 more television series, nearly all of it filmed in and around the city.In the latest Portraits episode, Forbes follows Tyler Perry around his Atlanta-based lot to get a sense of what it takes to build, own and control production on a billion-dollar scale.

The Multilevel Marketing Cults: Lies, Pyramid Schemes, and the Pursuit of Financial Freedom.

Multi Level Marketing (MLM) companies have been around for a long while now. Yet their controversy seems endless, with accusations of being pyramid schemes, or operating in a cult like fashion…

It’s time we dive into the MLM industry and find out exactly what is going on…

These companies follow a Multi-Level Marketing model, that means they often do not sell their products/services via retailers, but through a workforce of people sometimes called their “distributors”. This strategy is also often labelled as Network Marketing.

Examples of these companies are: Herbalife, Amway, ACN, Younique, LuLaRoe, Arbonne, Beachbody, doTerra, Mary Kay, Nu Skin, etc.

Although it seems ordinary on the surface, many of these companies have received a great amount of backlash, with entire communities built to oppose these companies (often labelled as the anti-mlm community).

The question here is: why the backlash?

In this video we dive into the industry and the reasoning behind the backlash, as well as the shady practices some MLM companies use in order to keep their distributors inside the company.

Some of these practices include the selling of a “dream” and promises of high returns, wealth, residual income, or “financial freedom” if they join, whilst simultaneously promoting many self-help concepts.

We also take a look at what exactly a Pyramid Scheme is, how to spot one, and whether the accusations against network marketing companies are deserved.

The pursuit of wealth and financial freedom can often be consuming – the question is who out there is choosing to exploit these desires…
